“Harmonising Tradition with Modern Living – Californian Bungalow Renovation”
As an architect we wanted to honour the inherent character of the Californian Bungalow while transforming it into a contemporary residence that meets the demands of modern living by introducing innovative design elements.
Central to the design is a striking contemporary extension featuring a subtle diamond-shaped roof form, which elegantly signifies the beginning of a split-level expansion. This architectural feature not only enhances the visual appeal of the home but also integrates seamlessly with the existing structure, blending tradition with modernity.
Designed with a young family in mind, the interior emphasises an open-plan environment that promotes connectivity and functionality. The kitchen serves as the heart of the home, complete with a convenient study nook adjoining it. This thoughtful layout allows the homeowner to indulge in their passion for cooking while overseeing the activities of their children, creating a harmonious balance between work and family life.
Natural light is maximised throughout the home, enhancing the sense of spaciousness and warmth.
